UN Treaty Calls for Disarmament of People 55 and Older | Next News Network (N3)

The UN General Assembly has approved a new international treaty that would regulate the sale and transfer of small arms and light weapons, which would include all civilian-owned firearms.

Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon insists, “There’s an emerging consensus that certain groups should be restricted from possessing conventional arms, certainly those who fuel conflict, arm criminals or violations of international humanitarian or human rights are at the top of the list.”

However, continued the Secretary-General, “the international community believes segments of the population … present a danger to themselves and others, chiefly individuals deemed or adjudicated mentally defective and persons with attenuating cerebral faculties, should be added to that list.” That last category was clarified by H. Michael Chase, an attorney who works as a UN liaison with Amnesty International.

Speaking with the Washington Post, Chase summarized, “Simply put, the UN believes guns don’t belong in the hands of the elderly,” meaning people 55 years old or older.

  1. Interesting that they are now targeting the "dangerous" elderly.
